The Bentley Bentayga Diesel looks set to get a 4.0 litre diesel V8 engine complete with electric turbo delivering up to 450bhp and lots of torque.
When the Bentley Bentayga was officially revealed, the only engine option was the 600bhp W12 TSI, but we know Bentley will be expanding that to include V8 versions, probably a hybrid and, it would seem definitely, a diesel version.Set to be the first diesel-engined car from Bentley, it looks like the Bentayga is going to get the same 4.0 litre V8 diesel with electric turbo that’s planned as a range-topping Audi SQ7.
Electric turbo charging for the Bentayga diesel will mean no turbo lag – with power expected to come on stream from not much more than 1000 rpm – as much as 450bhp and a wave of torque that is expected to be more than 600lb/ft. Which should be enough to make even the gargantuan Bentayga feel nimble.
Talking to Automotive News, Bentley lead engineer, Peter Guest, has confirmed that the diesel Bentayga is already undergoing testing and is expected to launch later in 2016, with the Bentayga’s 48-volt electric system – needed for its active roll control -= making it possible to deliver the power needed for the electric turbo.
The Bentley Bentayga will be in Bentley showrooms in early 2016 – costing from £160k – but it will be alter in 2016, at the earliest, before the diesel Bentayga is launched.
