The all-new 2017 Audi A5 and S5 Coupes have been revealed with improved aerodynamics, less weight and more technology. On sale late Summer 2016.
The all-new Audi A5 and S5 Coupe have been revealed, although Audi has clearly been taking lessons from Porsche about how you re-design, and you’d need to see the new A5 side-by-side with the current A5 to spot the changes. That said, the new A5 is built on a new platform – shared with the new A4 – and, according to Audi, is a sharper design that just improves the masterpiece that is the current A5.
The front end is perhaps the most changed, with a wider grille sitting lower down with creases flowing outwards, a bulging bonnet, wider air intakes and bits of chrome.
The side look much the same, although the crease across the rear wheel arches looks a bit sharper, the LED tail lights are a bit slimmer and there’s a brake light across the top of the back window.
The S5, unsurprisingly, follows the lead of the A5 but gets brushed aluminium trim elements and bigger 19″ alloys (although you’ll be able to spec bigger).
Weight loss for the new A5/S5 is around 60kg thanks to aluminium in the chassis and lighter engines, with engine options comprising of three diesel and two petrols, promising outputs between 188bhp and 282bhp and economy and emissions improved by up to 22 per cent.
Both manual and automatic transmissions will be available, as will quattro four wheel-drive, depending on model.
The S5 comes with the same 3.0 litre TFSI V6 as the new S4, producing 349bhp and 368lb/ft of torque, enough for a 0-62mph of 4.7 seconds.
Inside the A5 and S5 it’s pretty much what you find in the A4 and S4, with Audi’s 12.3″ Virtual Cockpit replacing the traditional instruments and an 8.3″ infotainment screen in the middle, with stuff like MMI Nav Plus, Audi Connect and Wi-Fi all available as well as driver tech like Active Lane Assist, Adaptive Cruise, Traffic Jam Assist, Collision Avoidance Assist and more.
Audi say the new A5 and S5 Coupes will be available to order at UK dealers later in the summer, with first cars arriving in November.
