2017 Range Rover Sport updates include two new enginesl

Land Rover reveal 2017 updates for the Range Rover Sport, with additional technology and a pair of new engines – 2.0 litre Ingenium and Supercharged V6.

Just last week, Land Rover revealed the updates for the 2017 Range Rover, and now we get details of the updates for its smaller, cheaper sibling the Range Rover Sport.

Probably the biggest news is the arrival of JLR’s 2.0 litre diesel Ingenium engine in the RRS, offering a new entry-level Range Rover Sport with four-cylinder power and prices starting at £59,700.

Land Rover has given the 2.0 litre diesel 237bhp, which is enough to get the two tonne Sport SD4 to 62mph in 8.0 seconds and deliver official economy of 45.6mpg (although you’ll never get within a country mile of that in the real world).

If you’re not a diesel lover – and more and more buyers are thinking twice about oil burners – then JLR has now given UK buyers the option of the 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged petrol engine as a lower power, lower price alternative to the previous Hobson’s choice of the 5.0 litre V8 S/C.

Under the bonnet of the Range Rover Sport the Supercharged V6 delivers 335bhp and gets to 62mph in a slightly disappointing 7.1 seconds. It also returns official economy of just 26.9mpg.

New technology in the RRS for 2017 includes Blind Spot Assist, Tow Assist, Autonomous Braking and Low Traction Launch for slippery conditions.

There’s also the new 10″ Infotainment with InControl Touch Pro, just like the 2017 Range Rover, and just like the 2017 Range Rover there are a pile of new exterior colours dreamt up by JLR’s SVO, as well as new exterior Design Pack.

The 2017 Range Rover Sport goes on sale later this year in Land Rover’s UK dealers.

Yes! Yes! Yes! A smaller petrol engine for the UK market at last. That makes Range Rover a tick on the list of SUVs I could be buying. Diesels are dying and many car makers are beginning to realize this.
