2017 Honda Civic Hatch revealed as Swindon prepares to export the Civic globally

The new Honda Civic Hatchback has been revealed ahead of a debut at the Paris Motor Show as Honda prepare to deliver the new Civic to the world from Swindon.

The 2017 Honda Civic hatchback has been revealed – the 10th generation Civic – ahead of its debut at the Paris Motor Show later this month, and it looks to be a proper leap on from the current generation Civic.

Unsurprisingly, it’s not  exactly dissimilar to the four-door Civic saloon that’s been around in the US for a few months, but the more European hatch – although it will be selling in the US – is a notch or two up on the looks scale, and likely to have a better interior too.

And it’s a good thing the new Civic looks impressive, because the current Civic was never that great and has been completely overtaken by rivals, and this new Civic is a global car, so get it wrong an it’s wrong everywhere.

The new Civic is longer, wider and lower than the current car, with a much stiffer body and a multi-link suspension at the back, all of which promise impressive handling, room and refinement.

Engine for the new Civic in the UK look set to be a 1.0 litre turbo three-cylinder with around 130bhp and a 1.5 litre four-cylinder with 180bhp.

That’s going to be it for 2017 as far as we can tell, but Honda is planning to offer a 1.6 litre diesel for the 2018 model year of the new Civic, although with diesel rapidly losing ground – and every chance the taxation system favouring diesel engines is in for change – that may not be the marketing faux pas it would have been a couple of years ago.

The new Honda Civic Hatch gets its public debut at the Paris Motor Show this month and goes on sale in spring 2017 at Honda’s UK dealers.
