Sleek Volkswagen Arteon arrives to replace VW’s CC

The new Volkswagen Arteon has been revealed at the Geneva Motor Show, a replacement for the VW CC and sitting above the Passat in Volkswagen’s range.

The Volkswagen Arteon has been revealed as a replacement for the old VW CC, and it’s a good looking thing.

Perhaps not pretty or particularly handsome, the Arteon is more striking in style, but it presents a distinctly premium looking new face to the world. It certainly makes the terminally dull Passat look a bit of a waste of space.

Clearly aimed at more upmarket buyers who would be considering a BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe or, dare we say it, an Audi A5 Sportback, the Arteon is a three-box coupe which takes a chunk of its design cues from the 2015 C Coupe GTE Concept.

Under that new striking look is the ubiquitous MQB Platform, and the Arteon will come with the usual choice of VW engines, drivetrains and gearboxes, although perhaps with less emphasis on ‘Clean’ diesels than previously.

There’s everything from the 1.5 litre TSI that’s now in the Golf up to a, for now at least, range-topping 2.0 litre turbo petrol with 276bhp, 4Motion 4WD and a seven-speed DSG gearbox.

Inside, the Arteon looks a bit more familiar VW, with its digital instruments and a 9.2″ infotainment screen complete with ‘wave at me to make me work’ controls.

Safety tech is strong as is a degree of autonomous driving ability, with VW’s Emergency Assist able to take control in emergencies, Lane Assist and lights that know where the bends are.

The Arteon looks a strong contender, and although there are no prices released yet it is going to be available to order almost straight away from your local VW dealer.
