The world and his fog may be less enamoured of diesel-engined cars that they once were, but that’s not stopping Renault from delivering a new Megane GT with the world’s most powerful 1.6 litre diesel engine. The Renault Megane GT dCi 165, developed with Renault Sport, comes as either a hatchback or estate and the new twin-turbo 1.6 litre diesel engine delivering 163bhp and a healthy 280lb/ft of torque for good grunt, enough to deliver a 0-62mph of 8.8 seconds, with drive through the front wheels through an EDC auto.
Emissions for the GT come in at 120g/km, with Renault claiming economy of around 60mpg for both the hatch and estate, although in the real world that will be more like low 40s.
Fortunately, Renault has just given the diesel GT extra oomph, they’ve also tweaked springs and dampers, the GT has rear-wheel steering too and there’s lane departure warning, traffic sign notification, auto adaptive lights, cruise, parking sensors and auto wipers.
Sporty bits include a more butch front end with honeycomb grille, diffuser, meaty tail pipes, sports seats and Renaultsport scuff plates, with an 8.75″ infotainment screen with Sat Nav and Bluetooth, as well as climate, for the interior.
