The SEAT Arona has been officially revealed as a compact SUV aimed at cars like the new Hyundai Kona and Nissan Juke. Debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The compact urban SUV market is becoming a very crowded place, with recent reveals for cars like the Hyundai Kona and Kia Stonic aimed at a market created by the Nissan Juke. And now we have another – the SEAT Arona.

Revealed last night in Barcelona, the SEAT Arona arrives as a little brother to the relatively new SEAT Ateca (and there’s a bigger SUV from SEAT due before too long as well) as SEAT move in to the huge compact SUV market to try and tap a profit.

Sitting on the same MQB AO platform as the Ibiza, the Arona is a compact 4138mm long – about the same as the Juke – with raised ride height and a decent boot.

Technology looks to be a strong point for the Arona, with Front Assist, Adaptive Cruise, Hill Hold, Tiredness Recognition, Auto Lights and Wipers, Keyless, rear-view camera, 8″ infotainment and wireless phone charging all in the mix (spec dependant, no doubt).

We’re not entirely sure what trim levels will be on offer in the UK, but expect to see S, SE, SE Technology, FR and Xcellence options to fit your needs and budget.

Engine options include the 1.0 TSI petrol three-cylinder with 95PS or 115PS (DSG option on the 115PS) and a new four-cylinder 150PS TSI too. Diesel options will be the 1.6 TDI with 95PS or 115PS.

The SEAT Arona will get its public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, and should be on sale in the UK before the end of the year.
