‘Brand New’ 1968 Jaguar E-Type with 1700 miles and ONE owner up for grabs
A 1969 E-Type Jaguar 4.2 2+2 Coupe with just 1700 miles on the clock and one owner from new goes under the hammer at H&H’s sale at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford.
Bought in 1969 by businessman Peter Ashcroft, he didn’t exactly thrash it to death roaring off to the South if France, but instead seems to have kept it as a work of art. Which it is.
Last taxed for road use in 1977, it’s so original it even has the blanking plate for a radio in the dash and the entire interior looks just as it did when it came out of Jaguar’s factory, as does the bodywork.
Despite only putting 1700 miles on the clock in the eight years he had it on the road, Mr Ashcroft, who lived in Maldon, sent his E-Type off to specialists Alan Collins of Maldon in 2000, and in the following nine years they fixed what 40 years of inactivity wrought, keeping the car completely original in the process.
Peter Ashcroft only did a further five miles in the car before his death, and when his estate sold it off to the vendor they confirmed its originality and mileage.
H&H Classics are now offering this very original E-Type at their sale at The Imperial War Museum in Duxford on 26 July, with an estimate of £100-150k.
