Porsche Cayman E-Volution Prototype ELECTRIFIES the Cayman to 62mph in 3.3 seconds

A Porsche Cayman E-Volution Prototype has appeared at the at the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Stuttgart pointing at Porsche’s electric future.

The Porsche Mission-E electric sports saloon is only just around the corner, but it’s starting to look like Porsche are further down the line withy electric versions of their sports cars than we perhaps realised.

Although only a prototype, the Porsche Cayman E-Volution – which is on display this week at the Electric Vehicle Symposium in Stuttgart – gives an idea of where Porsche may be heading.

Looking like a pretty bog-standard pre-718 Cayman, the E-Volution comes with a graphic on the side which says ‘Turbo Charging’. But this isn’t some sort of forced induction for the Cayman, but an electric powertrain.

And it’s an electric powertrain which can cope with the new 800v charging system Porsche is offering in the Mission-E which will charge – to 80 per cent – in not a lot longer than it’d take to stick in 20 gallons of unleaded at the pump.

The accumulator-based fast charging system has been developed by Porsche and ADS TEC and can deliver a charging capacity of 320kW. Although it will depend on the technology being rolled out to charging points.

We assume the E-Volution comes with a similar setup to the Mission-E as it will hit 62mph in 3.3 seconds – much quicker than any ICE Cayman – although it clearly has a modest battery pack with a range of just 124 miles – less than a third of the Mission-E.

The Porsche Cayman E-Volution may be just a Prototype, but it gives a pretty clear indication of what’s to come from electric Porsches.
