Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV arrives with 582 Ferrari horses
A new range-topping Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV has been revealed at the New York Motor Show, with a 582bhp Ferrari V8 and good for 0-62mph in 3.9 seconds.
We’ve already seen the hugely powerful Jaguar F-Pace SVR arrive in New York with 542bhp from its 5.0 litre Supercharged V8, but it’s been usurped on the power and performance front by the new Maserati Levante Trofeo SUV.Having already capitulated to demand by delivering the Ferrari V6-powered Levante to the UK market last year, we have to hope Maserati decides to do the same with this new Levante Trofeo, which comes with a very appealing 582bhp Ferrari V8.
That 542bhp – and 538lb/ft of torque – is enough to get the Levante to 62mph in just 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 186mph, with Maserati claiming a 50:50 weight balance for the Trofeo and giving it a new Corsa mode for maximum performance.
All that makes the Trofeo the most potent of Maseratis, with Maserati ramming the point home with body tweaks including new front fascia and rear bumper, aerodynamic wings, big air intakes and a set of thumping great 22″ alloys.
Maserati CEO, Tim Kuniskis, said:
It’s proof that when you play with the elements you end up in a storm.
In the case of Trofeo, the engineers and designers in Modena knew that the driveline parameters were more than able to cope with additional power and they also knew that Maserati had access to the finest engines on earth. So, they were up to the challenge of making the finest luxury SUV also one of the fastest.
The Maserati Levante Trofeo goes in to production in the summer, and if it arrives in the UK expect prices to be a chunk more than the £71k V6 version.
