New Mercedes-AMG E 53 is (a little bit) ELECTRIC and replaces the E 43

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 arrives as a mild hybrid replacement for the current E 43 with a new 3.0 litre six-cylinder petrol engine with 48v electrics and EQ Boost.

Mercedes has replaced its lesser AMG E Class model – the E 43 – with the new AMG E 53, which comes as a saloon and an estate and a new mild hybrid powertrain, with a new six-cylinder petrol coupled to an integrated starter with a 48v electrical system.

The outcome of the 429bhp and 295lb/ft of torque from the new petrol engine, and an extra 21bhp and 184lb/ft of torque when the EQ Boost kicks in is a 0-62mph of 4.5 seconds and, officially at least, economy of 32.5mpg.

As standard the new E 53 models come with AMG’s 9G Speedshift ‘box, 19″ alloys, AMG Exhaust, Ride COntrol, Dynamic Select, Comand Online with 12.3″ screen, Intelligent Lighting, Nappa Leather, Parking Package and Memory Package.

Options include the Premium Plus for £2,595 which includes Burmester Sound, Keyless Go Comfort Package and Panoramic Roof, Comfort PAckage for £395 and £1,695 for the Driving Assistance Plus Package with stuff like Blind Spot, Active Braking, Active Steering, Pre-Safe and more.

The new E 53 is already on sale at Mercedes’ UK dealers, with the saloon costing from £61,835 and the Estate from £63,835. First UK ddeliveries in July.
