Jaguar I-Pace: Jaguar shift just 140 in August as I-Pace deliveries slow to ramp up

White Jaguar I-Pace as I-Pace production slowly grows

The Jaguar I-Pace looks to be rolling out very slowly

Jaguar seems to be finding it difficult to produce enough of their new I-Pace electric SUVs quickly, with just 140 shifted in August.

The new Jaguar I-Pace has received terrific press since it was revealed, and that’s turned in to significant orders for Jaguar’s first electric car.

We know they have an order for (up to) 20,000 from Google’s Waymo, and we know they had 25,000 pre-orders a year ago, not to mention what’s thought to be a demand for around 3,500 I-Pace in the Netherlands alone – needed by the year end due to pending tax changes.

Which is all fine and dandy, but as far as we know Jaguar had only planned for Magna Steyr to build around 13,000 I-Pace a year, although it seems almost certain they’ve now managed to up that (and seem to be planning I-Pace production in China too).

But despite the big order numbers for the I-Pace, Jaguar does seem to be finding it tough to build them and actually get them out to real customers. In fact, last month (August 2018) Jaguar managed to shift just 140 I-Pace, down from 223 in July. So far, the total shifted out is just 558.

There is some evidence JLR/Magna Steyr are struggling a bit with battery supply, and that customers are being told of delays. But it’s still very early days for the I-Pace, and with Magna Steyr producing it’s highly unlikely the I-Pace is heading for the sort of production hell the Tesla Model 3 has experienced.

But although the roll-out of the I-Pace seems slower than expected, one customer has already got his; Prince Charles is reported to have taken delivery of a Loire Blue (not a colour available to any other buyer) I-Pace this week at Clarence House. Jaguar has also managed to deliver one to Andy Murray too, so perhaps you need to be high-profile to get an early I-Pace?

Hopefully, the rest of Jaguar’s I-Pace waiting list will be getting theirs soon too.
