Skoda Kamiq revealed
The Skoda Kamiq – Skoda’s take on cars like the VW T-Cross – is revealed ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
Skoda has been busy teasing the Kamiq – their new baby crossover – for a while, first with the name and then with design sketches. But now, ahead of a public debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the covers have come off the Kamiq, adding yet another car to the long list of SUVs proliferating across the VW Group brands.
Heading in to battle against not only VW’s own T-Cross, but cars like Hyundai Kona and Toyota C-HR too, the Kamiq mixes styling from Skoda’s current SUVs and the Scala to deliver a compact SUV which will hold appeal in the market.
Standout bits include the two tier headlight arrangement, upright grille, contoured bonnet, scrolling indicators and Skoda’s ‘This will make it look Premium’ ‘S.K.O.D.A’ lettering on the tailgate.
Inside there’s some pretty familiar Skoda Scala looks going on, with big infotainment screen dominating the sweeping dash, and tech stuff like wireless phone charging, mood lighting, electric tailgate and Lane Keep.
Under the bonnet is familiar, with a choice of four engines, and only front-wheel drive, with a single 1.6 litre TDI with 113bhp, a 1.0 litre petrol with 94bhp or 113bhp and a 1.5 litre turbo with 148bhp.
No UK prices for the Skoda Kamiq yet, but a starting price of around £16,995 seems about right.
