2019 Porsche Cayenne Coupe revealed
The ‘lifestyle’ take on the Cayenne – the Porsche Cayenne Coupe – arrives to take on cars like the BMW X6, with sloping roofline and active spoiler.
It’s taken Porsche a surprisingly long time to deliver a coupe version of the Cayenne, especially with the surprising success of cars like the BMW X6 – launched a decade ago – but they’ve finally succumbed and have delivered this – the new Porsche Cayenne Coupe.Just as you’d expect, the Cayenne Coupe is pure Cayenne from the tip of its nose back to the B-pillar, but then it takes a deeper dive to a more steeply raked rear window and a back end which gets an active spoiler beneath the window which deploys above 56mph.
Engine choices at launch are limited to just a pair of petrols (no diesel here, thank you very much) with a 3.0 litre V6 Turbo with 335bhp hitting 62mph in 6.0 seconds, and a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 in the Cayenne Coupe Turbo good for the 62mph spring in a daft 3.9 seconds. Expect at least a plug-in hybrid version to follow.
Standard kit includes 20″ alloys, Sport Chrono, active dampers and parking sensors, with optional lightweight packages offering stuff like carbon roof, performance exhaust and 22″ alloys.
Inside, the Cayenne Coupe gets electric sports seats, 12″ infotainment, Panoramic roof and a couple of seats in the back. You can opt for a bench seat instead, but then you might as well just buy the regular Cayenne.
Thankfully, Porsche has done a pretty good job with the Cayenne Coupe’s looks – it’s almost big Macan – and it’s certainly better looking than cars like the X6 and Mercedes GLE Coupe. It will also be better to drive.
Due to reach Porsche’s UK showrooms in May, the 3.0 V6 will costs from £62,129 and the V8 Turbo from £104,729.
