Jaguar i-Pace and Audi e-tron recalled
The electric Jaguar i-Pace and Audi e-tron SUVs are both being recalled as Jaguar and Audi find a few teething problems with their new electric SUVs.
No one said it was going to be easy building electric cars, and despite both Jaguar and Audi delivering very impressive electric SUVs as their first full-blown EVs, there are a few glitches with technology neither car maker has a long history with.Jaguar has a problem with the i-Pace as they’ve discovered that the braking system could get in to a place where it’s breaking regulations if there’s a failure of the regenerative braking system.
It seems that if the regenerative bit of the braking system packs up then it will take longer for the brakes to work when you stomp on the brake pedal, and that breaks regulations.
In the UK, the recall is voluntary and appears to be just a software update so won’t take long. But, for some reason, it appears it can’t be done with an over-air update of the software.
Audi has a different problem with their electric e-tron SUV where they’ve discovered an issue with a component in the charging system which could cause a fire when charging.
The numbers in the UK are small – just 31 cars – and Audi are making direct contact to arrange for the cars to be fixed.
And the Teslerati smiled.
