Watch the Electric Porsche Taycan accelerate to 124mph

Fully Charged have been let loose in the new electric Porsche Taycan to demonstrate its ability to repeatedly accelerate to 124mph without ‘cooling off’.

There’s no denying the acceleration of the Tesla Model S, and all Teslas for that matter, is exceptional. The Tesla Model S P100D can get to 62mph in the blink of an eyelid. Well, a 2.6 second blink.

But impressive though Tesla’s performance is, it’s a one-trick pony; if you want to do it again you’ll have to wait three winters for the batteries to cool enough to repeat the performance. But you won’t in a Porsche Taycan.

Porsche has trumpeted for some time that the ability to accelerate repeatedly, without any ‘cooling off’ period, is vital for a Porsche, although no one outside Porsche has ever been allowed to prove the Taycan can do it. Until now.

Now, Porsche has let Robert Llewellyn’s Fully Charged loose on the Taycan – which will have put a few noses out of joint in the car journo world – with Jonny Smith the lucky chap tasked with testing Porsche’s claims.

Despite being let loose on an airfield near Stuttgart, Porsche weren’t up for delivering and more juicy titbits about the Taycan, but we know enough to be impressed.

It appears the Taycan out playing is the Taycan Turbo, with over 600bhp, a 95kWh battery and a range of over 300 miles (not that the range will come close if you keep blasting to 124mph).

Add all that together and you get a mighty impressive performance Porsche, and although its 0-62mph sprint-ability is officially 3.5 seconds – nearly a second slower than the Model S – we’re pretty sure Porsche could match the Tesla if it chose. But reliable, available acceleration is clearly more important.

Smithy was told he could do ten 0-124mph runs without problem. But he did more, with no warnings and no problem.

Which is mighty impressive.
