Electric Porsche Taycan does 2,128 miles in 24 hours at the Nardo track

As the debut for the electric Porsche Taycan nears, Porsche has been out at the Nardo test track and covered 2,128 miles in 24 hours.

The new electric Porsche Taycan is a big marker by Porsche for its future, but an electric Porsche is such a change in direction for Porsche that they’re busying themselves proving to potential buyers that an electric Porsche car do everything, and more, that an ICE Porsche can.

We recently saw Porsche run the Taycan to 124mph time and time and time again to prove the Taycan, unlike the Tesla Model S, not only has stunning acceleration, but acceleration that is repeatable – not a one trick pony.

Now Porsche is out to disprove the myth that electric cars are no good at doing long distances – like crossing continents – with a 24-hour run at the Nardo test track.

At the high-speed Nardo test track in Italy, Porsche ran the Taycan for a full 24 hours, stopping as needed to recharge, averaged speeds between 120mph and 134mph, endured track temperatures of up to 42C and managed to cover an impressive 2,128 miles in 2 4 hours – including recharging.

The run proved that the Taycan can deliver on its promise of performance and range, utilising 800V charging technology to recharge the Taycan in minutes at each stop, and proved that the Taycan’s batteries can cope with extreme temperatures too.

Stefan Weckbach, Porsche’s Taycan Product Line VP, said:

…the Taycan mastered this ambitious endurance run without any problems; the result achieved in Nardò highlights the advantages of the unique 800-volt technology and its high maturity level. Before the Taycan is launched on the market at the end of the year, we will have covered over six million test kilometres across the globe.

The Porsche Taycan will be officially revealed on 4 September.
