Jaguar F-Type RALLY bids farewell as a new F-Type gets closer

The Jaguar F-Type Rally – built as a promo by JLR and never intended to rally – bids farewell at the 2019 Wales Rally GB as a new Jaguar F-Type looms.

Is a convertible Jaguar F-Type the perfect rally car? No, it isn’t, but that didn’t stop Jaguar building a rally version of the F-Type Convertible (actually, they built two of them) last year.

Ostensibly, the F-Type Rally was built to mark 70 years since the first Jaguar sports car – the Jaguar XK20 – arrived, and went on to compete in the Alpine Rally from 1950 to 1952, with the famous ‘NUB 120’ not incurring a single penalty point in the process.

But as much as anything the F-Type Rally was built to be used at events to demonstrate the breadth of its abilities, and to promote the F-Type Chequered Flag celebration model on which it was based.

But having served its purpose as a promo tool for the F-Type, the F-Type Rally has done its job and had a final outing at the weekend at the Wales Rally GB in the hands of Junior Welsh Tarmac Rally Champion Jade Paveley (pictured above).

But the F-Type Rally has not just served its purpose, it’s about to become obsolete as a promo tool as a new Jaguar F-Type grows closer, an F-Type expected to move more in to Porsche 911 territory with new styling, updated looks and V8 engines from BMW expected to make their debut in a Jaguar.

The new Jaguar F-Type is expected in 2020.
