PSA and Fiat Chrysler MERGER talks confirmed

PSA and FCA are in merger talks to potentially create one of the biggest car groups in the world, with both companies confirming the talks are ongoing.

FCA – that’s Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Fiat, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati and Ram – have been looking for a partner to get in to bed with and share the burdens of the massive changes disrupting the motor industry for quite some time, and as recently as May it proactively proposed marriage with Renault.

The FCA approach with Renault didn’t really go anywhere, but it seems the Italian-American FCA has a bit of a yearning for a French partner and is now courting that other French car maker – PSA.

PSA – that’s now Peugeot, Citroen, DS and Vauxhall (Opel) – seems rather less reluctant to get in to bed with the flirtatious Italians than Renault, and both PSA and FCA have released the same statement on the talks:

Following recent reports on a possible business combination between Groupe PSA and FCA Group, Groupe PSA confirms there are ongoing discussions aimed at creating one of the world’s leading automotive groups.

If the deal goes ahead it would potentially create one of the world’s biggest car making groups, with a value around £40 billion, and challenge the VW Group in Europe.
