Hyundai 45 EV Concept teased
The Hyundai 45 Concept is teased ahead of a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, with retro styling inspired by Hyundai’s first car 45 years ago.
Are Hyundai following Honda’s lead with a retro inspired electric urban runaround?A new tease from Hyundai for an electric car concept heading for a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show starts today with a single image of the back of the EV, and it’s inspired by Hyundai’s first car – the Hyundai Pony.
Hyundai are dubbing the concept the Hyundai?45?as it’s 45 years since the Pony first arrived using modified Mitsubishi bits and put Hyundai on the road to success.
That retro reference seems to have inspired the 45 Concept’s back end, with a raked rear screen and full width lights, although the lights on the 45 are modern LEDs and we doubt it’s a Giugiaro Design, unlike the Pony.
Hyundai say the 45 Concept is a forward-driven design direction – despite its retro inspiration – incorporating Hyundai’s new ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design ethos.
It all sounds very interesting, but we wonder if the 45 Concept is Hyundai’s take on what Honda has done with their Urban EV Concept.
The Honda Urban Concept has turned in to a, slightly more prosaic, Honda E production car, taking simple retro design, mixing it with modern elements and a modest EV powertrain and creating a cute and appealing electric urban runaround which looks to be heading for proper sales success.
Hyundai perhaps wants a piece of the action with the 45.
