The new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 has even more power than expected, producing a mammoth 650 bhp and 650lb/ft of torque from its supercharged 6.2 litre V8.
The American are found of telling us there’s no substitute for cubic inches, but throw in a supercharger to the equation and numbers become even more appealing, and more linear than a turbo too.
So the fact the 6.2 litre V8 under the bonnet of the new Corvette Z06 already manages 465 bhp in naturally aspirated guise, it wasn’t a stretch when the car world was expecting around 625 bhp when Chevrolet finally revealed the power for the Z06. But it’s more.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 takes the 6.2 litre V8 from the Stingray, bolts on a supercharger that sits in the ‘V’ of the engine block and transforms the output to a huge 650 bhp and 650 lb/ft of torque.
Not only does the Z06 get the power boost from the supercharger, it also gets new rotocast aluminum heads, titanium intake valves, forged steel con rods, aluminium pistons stainless steel exhaust manifolds.
Despite, finally, getting power figures for the Z06, Chevrolet still hasn’t come up with performance figures, but we’d be surprised if the Z06 can’t get to 62 mph in well under 4 seconds.
If you fancy a bit of an American motoring icon – and all that straight-line power – the new Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be on sale in the UK in 2015, despite Chevrolet’s plans to withdraw from the UK and Europe, but only in left hand drive.
