ELECTRIC Porsche Macan planned
With the Porsche Mission E Electric car planned to arrive in 2019, Porsche are now planning an electric Macan and half their sales as EVs by 2023.
Every car maker on the planet is trying to introduce electrification in their cars as quickly, and cost-effectively, as they can as the only really sensible way to keep emissions in check. In fact, if you’d read the national press this week, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Volvo are dumping ICE engines completely from 2019, although what the actually said is that all their cars will have hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions by then, and there will be some pure BEVs too.
That’s the ‘Toyota’Lexus’ route all car makers are now ploughing as they seek a way to deliver low emissions cost-effectively – and electrification of the petrol engines is now viable almost across the board – although it will almost certainly sound the death knell of the diesel engine in cars in the process.
But it seems Porsche are actually aiming to have half of their production as pure BEVs by 2023 – just six years away – with an electric Macan planned to follow the impressive Mission E due to launch in 2019, according to Germany’s Manager Magazin. And for Porsche, that makes sense.
Tesla has proved high-end buyers will buy in to powerful, high-performance EVs with good range, and the Mission E is promising 300 miles of range and 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds.
If something close to that is delivered with an electric Macan – which is already Porsche’s biggest seller with getting on for 100k units a year – they have a wide-open market to bury Tesla and take a jump on the competition.
And get rid of those diesel engines in Porsches in the process.
