We test the new Ford Fiesta ECOnetic to see if it's as 'Green' as it seems

When we recently road tested the Ford Fiesta ECOnetic, we couldn’t help but conclude that even in ‘Eco’ guise it is still a great looking car – probably the best in its class. So when we came to snap some pictures we thought we ought to use a ‘Sylvan’ setting – trees and green and all those things that shout ‘ECO’.

Here are a selection of images from the photoshoot for the Fiesta ECOnetic. We’ve included some of the inside as well, even though we thought that was the weakest part of the car.

Actually, when we were on the photoshoot we were approached by a guy thinking of buying one for his wife. We told him we were pretty impressed by the car and, if you were looking for a very eco-friendly, good looking and fun to drive car, you could do an awful lot worse than the Fiesta ECOnetic. He had a good nose round the car whilst we were setting up and concluded that even though the inside wasn’t great, he thought they ought to go and buy one.

But he did say he thought the colour was ‘Council House Blue’! We thought it was a great colour. Oh well, it’d be a strange world if we all had the same taste. Still, he’s wrong. It is a good colour. But we’re sure Ford will be happy to supply him the ECOnetic in whichever colour he chooses!

As far as I am concerned the marvellous economy of the Econetic is a tradeoff against ground clearance. Does it repeatedly scrape its belly or jutting lower lip on curbs or uneven roads?
I am hunting for straight side elevation views to assess the clearance angles.. why does nobody else seem concerned about this?

There needs to be a bit of perspective here. The suspension on the Fiesta ECOnetic is lowered to make it slip through the air a little more easily. But that drop is less than an inch. Park an ECOnetic next to a standard Fiesta and you’d need a tape measure to tell the difference. You will NEVER notice it’s lower in everyday use.

When we had the Fiesta ECOnetic in for review we were impressed; it’s a great car. The interior could be nicer but if you want a properly good small car that can almost run on fresh air if you put your mind to it, the Fiesta ECOnetic is as good as it gets.
