Jaguar I-Pace is the Sunday Times Car of the Year
The Jaguar I-Pace has been voted the 208 Sunday Times Car of the Year at the inaugural News UK awards, also winning the ‘Green’ car of the year award.
Earlier this year the News UK Car Awards were announced, and after receiving more than 200,000 votes for their shortlisted cars the results have been announced – and it’s a win for the new Jaguar I-Pace.It seems Jaguar’s lead-stealing EV has sparked the imaginations of News UK readers (well done JLR) despite the fact that very few will have ever actually seen one in the flesh, let alone driven one. The reader vote was enough to make the I-Pace the ‘Green’ car of the year, but it was an expert panel which awarded the top Car of the Year gong.
The I-Pace was shortlisted against the Alpine A110, Ford Focus, Range Rover Velar, Volvo XC40 and Ford Fiesta ST – a diverse bunch – but was given the award because the expert panel felt it shows the world that electric cars are the future and not just the preserve of eco-warriors and Silicon Valley geeks.
Other awards were as diverse as the shortlist for Car of the Year, with wins for the Lamborghini Huracan Performante (Clarkson), Mercedes-AMG G 63 (Adventure), Range Rover velar (SUV), Volvo V60 (Family), MINI (Small), VW Golf GTE (Commuter), Aston Martin DBS Superleggera (Sports) and Bentley Continental GT (Luxury).

Why don’t motor journalist ever report that EVs do better mileage around town? The I-Pace does up to 360 miles on a full charge when being a Chelsea tractor
