AMG boss Ola Kallenius has said that there are two new Black Series Models in the planning. The SLS AMG Black Series and the C63 AMG Black Series, perhaps?
We all know that AMG is the performance arm of Mercedes and that the Black Series cars from AMG are the most hardcore of them all. And according to AMG big cheese Ola Kallenius we’re soon to be treated to a couple of new AMG Black Series cars. But which Mercedes models will get the Black Series treatment, you may ask?
First possibility is the Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series. We flew a flag for an SLS Black Series over a year ago when a contact at Mercedes told us the SLS Black was in the planning. A couple of months later others started to run the story that the SLS Black was on its way, but instead of coming with a tweaked and fettled version of the V12 in the SL65 Black with up to 700bhp as we heard, it was reckoned to come just with a few tweaks to the standard setup to deliver 600bhp.
Second possibility is the Mercedes C63 AMG Black Series. What looks like a C-Class Black Series has been running around Germany recently and, with the C-Class due an update, this makes sense as a swansong for the current model. It could also be the last hurrah for the 6.2 liter AMG lump as it’s getting replace across the range by Mercedes new 5.5 litre twin turbo V8.
Also in the mix – but with no information to back it up – must be a Black Series of the new E-class. All of which sound very promising and should be an awful lot better than the disappointing SL65 Black Series, which exchanged its USP – the trick roof – for a big V12 which couldn’t put its power down properly and was a bit of a dog – relatively speaking – in the ride and handling department.
More when we get it.
