Mercedes-AMG G 63 and G 65 Exclusive Editions on the boat to Frankfurt
The Mercedes-AMG G 63 and G 65 Exclusive Editions will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show as the G-Class becomes Mercedes most expensive model.
What’s the most expensive Mercedes you can buy?Well, if it wasn’t sold out, that would be the AMG Project One Hypercar. But they’re all sold so the crown for the quickest way to spend the most money with Mercedes now rests with the very ancient G-Class.
On the cusp of being brought in to the 21st century with a new model, Mercedes are intent on extracting what sales they can from buyers convinced the G-Class represents a good buy.
Having already delivered a Landaulet version of the G65, we now get two special editions heading for the Frankfurt Motor Show – the Mercedes-AMG G 63 and G 65 Exclusive Editions – with price tags to make your eyes water.
The AMG G 63 Exclusive Edition sounds almost reasonably priced at €163,125 (£150,000), but the AMG G 65 really takes the biscuit at €287,658 (£264,000).
Although you might reasonably expect gold plated armrests and Unicorn hide seats at those prices, what you get is a titivated take on the regular G-Class AMG models as, we assume, a run-out for the G-Class.
That means some fancy new 21″ alloys, AMG Monza Grey matte paint, AMG Sports Seats, two-tone Leather Dash, red AMG seat belts…and not a lot more.
We’re not sure Mercedes are going to offer the Exclusive Editions of the G-Class in RHD, but the we’re not sure how many here would be daft enough to pay that much for a gilded ancient off-roader.
