The Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet has been revealed as the pinnacle of the range, complete with a silky V12 with 621bhp and cosmetic additions.
The Mercedes S-Class Cabriolet was revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, with the choice of an S500 or the S63 AMG. But now there’s another choice – the Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabriolet.Sitting at the top of the S-Class range, the new S 65 comes with that rarity in a modern, eco-obsessed world – a silky V12 with 621bhp and 738lb/ft of torque.
The V12 in the S 65 Cabriolet can waft to 62mph in 4.1 seconds and on to an electronically limited 155mph, but for maximum bragging points you can opt for the AMG Driver’s Pack – and then you’ll be able to hit 186mph.
All that power goes to the back wheels via Mercedes’ seven-speed auto ‘box, and although the S65 is more about impressive wafting than outright performance, you’ll still struggle to match the official fuel consumption of 23.5mpg – in fact you’ll probably be lucky to get half that.
The S65’s soft-top comes in a choice of black, dark blue, beige, and dark red – and can be opened and closed at up to 30mph – and there’s extra chrome, new grill, 20″ forged alloys, four exhaust tail pipes and ‘V12’ badges to mark the S 65 out from its lesser siblings.
Standard equipment includes a heads-up display, Exclusive Nappa leather and a whole raft of safety technologies like Distronic Plus, BAS Plus and Pre-Safe.
The Mercedes-AMG S65 Cabriolet goes on sale in spring 2016. No prices have been revealed yet – but it won’t be cheap.
