It’s been a while since we had any news on Mercedes’ in-house replacement for the McLaren SLR – The Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing. That was back in April when Mercedes issued teaser images of the inside of the SLS AMG, and prior to that we had an ‘Official Spy Video’ of the Mercedes SLS out testing.
But time moves on and it won’t be long before we get the full reveal at Frankfurt, so Mercedes is out playing at more tease, and has issued the pictures you see here.
And we get a few more details. Auto Motor Und Sport has been talking to SLS designer Hartmut Sinkwitz – who was responisble for the Smart (sublime to the ridiculous springs to mind) – who says that although it is important to pay homage to the Gullwing Mercedes of the ’50s – the inspiration for the new Mercedes SLS – it was vital that the SLS should be a modern car in every respect.
To that end, this is no stripped-our supercar. The centre console has a fully featured infotainment centre, together with COMAND, Climate and Bluetooth, with extensive use of carbon fibre and aluminium. There will be extensive choices of seats and bespoke interior features.
On the exterior, Sinkwitz said “..we have designed an extra steep A-pillar so the driver’s field of view is not restricted.” The Gullwing doors of the Mercedes SLS also have a 70 degree opening, so you don’t have to be a midget to get in.
There will no doubt be more soon as Mercedes racks up the tease.
