New 2015 Hyundai i20 PROPERLY revealed – debuts at Paris Motor Show

August 11, 2014 By Cars UK

The new, second-generation Hyundai i20 has been revealed ahead of a public debut at the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October with more space and technology.

The Hyundai i20 is a decent, if slightly uninspiring, car, but it has shown Hyundai know how to put a car together to target a market dominated by the Ford Fiesta, and the new i20 – which will be revealed at the Paris Motor Show in October – should see the i20 edging closer to the Fiesta in appeal.

Now, following a tease reveal of the new Hyundai i20 using design sketches last week, we get the reveal of the all new, second generation i20 ahead of its public debut.

Using Hyundai’s ‘Fluidic Sculpture 2.0’ design language, the new i20 gets looks that are clearly inspired by the new i10 for a more modern look, with a new take on the Hyundai grill and black-c-pillars for a floating roof, making the new i20 look more contemporary, if a little bland.

Under the skin of the new i20 is a new Hyundai platform which has a wheelbase 45mm longer than the current i20. That means more space in the cabin (an interior Hyundai is yet to reveal) and, according to Hyundai, makes the new i20 able to seat five adults in comfort, despite a boot that’s grown in size by around 10 per cent to 320 litres.

A first for this segment will be an optional full panoramic roof – which will make the cabin light and airy – and upmarket options like rear-view camera and LED lights front and back.

Hyundai aren’t letting on what powers the new i20, so we’re assuming the current – not hugely appealing – engines will carry over from the current i20.

That means the choice of a 1.2 litre petrol with 83bhp or a 1.4 litre diesel with 89bhp, although it does seem likely the 1.0 litre 3-cylinder engine from the i10 will find its way in to the new i20 and, at some point, a more powerful option using the 1.6 litre turbo engine from the Veloster to cash-in on Hyundai’s WRC exploits, and probably badged i20N.

The new 2015 Hyundai i20 will get its public debut on October 2nd at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
