The King of the supermini market in the UK is the Ford Fiesta, but the Vauxhall Corsa isn’t all that far behind and Vauxhall are doubtless hoping the arrival of the new Vauxhall Corsa in early 2015 will help steal customers away from Ford.

Vauxhall hasn’t messed too much with the fourth generation Corsa, and although every body panel is new it’s still very much a Corsa.

Yes, the nose is more ‘modern’ Vauxhall and there are changes everywhere when you start to look – like the ‘blade running down the lower doors – but nothing that will frighten off the existing 80,000 plus buyers the Corsa goes home with each year.

Inside, Vauxhall say almost every element is new, and the new Corsa gets a completely redesigned instrument panel and dashboard, better levels of functionality and Vauxhall’s IntelliLink system which offers Apps controlled through a 7″ screen and is compatible with both Apple and Android phones, and there’s an area for locating and charging your phone too.

Comfort is improved inside too, with stuff like heated seats, steering wheel and windscreen available for cold winter days, a full size glass panoramic roof for a light and airy cabin and ambient lighting to make everything feel nice and cosy.

Under the skin sits a modified version of the current Corsa’s platform – which is why the new Corsa is, more or less, the same size as the current Corsa, but there’s a stiffer front subframe and new front suspension setup for better handling, new speed-sensitive electronic power steering and the whole suspension tuned for UK roads.

Better straight line and cornering stability is promised too thanks to retuning of the rear suspension and the Corsa gets a new electrical architecture which allows stuff like Hill Start, Park Assist and Tyre Pressure Monitoring to be fitted.

The big news under the bonnet is the arrival of the 1,0 litre 3-cylinder ECOTEC turbo in the Corsa, offering either 89bhp or 113bhp, but there will also be a new version of the 1.4 litre Turbo with 99bhp, a pair of naturally aspirated petrols – 1.2 and 1.4 litre – and the current Corsa’s 1.3 litre diesel which has been much improved and is now Euro 6 compliant.

The new Vauxhall Corsa will debut at the Paris Motor Show in the Autumn and arrive in Vauxhall’s UK showrooms in early 2015. Prices for the new Cors haven’t been announced, but it seems likely they’ll start at much the same as the current Corsa, which kicks off around £9.5k.
