New Nissan EV Ambassador Margot Robbie races the BladeGlider EV round Monaco
Nissan has appointed actor Margot Robbie as the new face of Nissan Electric Cars, and have sent her racing round Monaco in the BladeGlider EV to celebrate.
Do Nissan electric cars need a face? It seems they do.Nissan has announced that the delectable Margot Robbie – she of The Wolf of Wall Street and Suicide Squad – is the new face of Nissan electric cars and zero emissions. And if Nissan electric cars need a face, they’d struggle to do much better than Ms Robbie’s.
To celebrate Ms Robbie’s new role, Nissan sent her off to Monte Carlo to drive the Nissan BladeGlider EV sports car round the street circuit, and thoughtfully remembered to take a film crew with them.
The resulting video (below) shows Margot drifting around Fairmont Hairpin (that’s the Loews Hairpin in old money – the slowest corner in F1), overtaking another (actually, the other) BladeGlider at Massenet corner, and ending up at the iconic Casino Square. And it was Margot Robbie doing all the driving. Honestly.
For those who don’t remember, Nissan revealed the BladeGlider EV at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2013 – refining it last year – as a look at what a Delta Wing EV sports car for three would be, with a 130kW electric motor delivering 264bhp and a 0-62mph under 5.0 seconds. It even has a drift mode. And the powertrain comes from Williams Advanced Engineering, so it’s a proper bit of kit.
Margot Robbie said of her new role:
It’s a really exciting time for electric vehicles. More people are choosing to go electric, leading the way to a more sustainable future and the Nissan BladeGlider hints at the future of smarter performance cars.
In case you’re wondering, this isn’t just a case of someone with a bit of clout in Nissan PR having the hots for Margot Robbie (although that’s entirely possible), it’s about getting people to talk about sustainability and zero emissions living, and promoting the #ElectrifyTheWorld hashtag.
And Margot Robbie.
