New Nissan NISMO Cars Business Department arrives to extend Nissan’s NISMO offerings
Nissan has formed the NISMO Cars Business Department to extend and develop a much larger range of NISMO performance models and increase performance sales.
Big car makers, especially premium makers, have long had performance divisions to deliver more extreme cars to buyers, and cast a glow across the rest of their range. And it works. It also works for more mainstream car makers like Ford and Renault and, to a lesser degree, Nissan. But Nissan are now planning turning ‘lesser’ in to a ‘greater’ with the launch of the Nissan NISMO Cars Business Department.
Not the catchiest title we’ve ever come across, but it is a real statement of intent from Nissan that it will be adding far more NISMO options in future, no doubt including just cosmetic titivations as well as proper performance models.
Currently, Nissan only manages to deliver around 15,000 NISMO cars a year – a tiny fraction of its total production – but then it has relatively few NISMO options on sale with just the 370Z, GT-R, Juke and Note available.
But Nissan are now diving headlong in to extending those modest offerings, with Takao Katagiri, President of Nisan partners Autech and Nissan Motorsports, saying:
As a Nissan sub-brand, NISMO further builds upon the core values of Nissan cars.
With the combined expertise of Nissan group companies, NISMO road cars will make customers enjoy Nissan cars more than ever.
Nissan are planning to extend the NISMO range in Japan, North America, Europe and the Middle East, and will work with Nissan Motorsports to show NISMO cars in dealerships and showrooms, and hold special events for NISMO owners.
It sounds like a plan.
