Nissan has confirmed they ar going to launch a Murano Convertible – The Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet – at LA in November. The world’s first AWD crossover convertible.
We reported back in early July that there was a rumour in the air – well, more a strong possibility – that Nissan were close to launching something we didn’t think the world needed – the Nissan Murano Convertible.
We had emails and Tweets, some disbelieving but several saying that the rendering we used of the Murano Convertible wasn’t quite as awful as they’d expected. Which is just as well as Nissan has today confirmed that it’s happening and the Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet will debut at the LA Motor Show in November.
Nissan – and they’ll get no argument from us – are calling the Murano CrossCabriolet the world’s first all-wheel drive crossover convertible. And they may well be right, with the exception of a number of one-off coachbuilt examples of roofless Range Rovers which have surfaced over the years.
Nissan go on to tell us that the Murano CC will still have room for four adults with space for golf bags and luggage. Which means it will – as expected – be a rag top, not a folding tin top. How much shake and rattle there’s going to be I hate to think, and if it is kept in check then the Murano CrossCabriolet will probably weigh about as much as a grouse moor.
We think it’s a niche too far. Which means it will probably sell by the million.
Expect it to arrive in a Nissan showroom somewhere near you in time for summer 2011.
