Nissan Qashqai gets NEW 1.3-litre DIG-T petrol engine
Nissan replaces the 1.2 and 1.6 litre engines in the Qashqai with a single 1.3-litre DIG-T petrol engine in two states of tune, and introduces a new seven-speed DCT gearbox option.
Nissan recently announced a new 1.5 litre diesel engine for the Qashqai as WLTP tests make car makers jump through a few hoops to keep their cars competitive and compliant, and now it’s the turn of the petrol engines in the Qashqai to get updated.Gone are the current 1.2 and 1.6 litre petrol engines and in comes a new 1.3 litre DIG-T petrol engine available in two states of tune – 113bhp and 158bhp – with improved fuel economy and reduced emissions.
There will actually be three versions of the Qashqai with the new petrol engine, as in addition to the 113bhp and 158bhp versions with manual gearbox there will also be a 158bhp version with a seven-speed DCT gearbox and more torque – 199lb/ft (although that won’t be available until next month).
Nissan are claiming official economy of 53.3mpg for both power versions (49.6mpg if you opt for 18/19″ wheels) and lower emissions too at 121g/km, and the additional torque (a very useful 37lb/ft more than the old 1.2 litre) should make them a better drive too.
Prices for the new petrol Qashaqi start at £19,595 for a Visia 1.3 DIG-T 140, and Nissan are claiming exceptional residuals with CAP granting the 1.3 DIG-T 140 Acenta Premium a 50.1 per cent residual after 36 months.
Alex Smith, Nissan GB’s MD, said:
The launch of this all-new 1.3-litre unit is the right response to changing market conditions, meeting customer demand for a highly effective petrol engine that delivers outstanding driving performance and fuel efficiency.
The new Nissan Qashqai 1.3 DIG-T petrol is now available to order at Nissan’s UK dealers.
