POLESTAR will reveal their first Concept next week – could it be based on the Volvo Concept Coupe (pictured)?
Polestar – the new Volvo Performance Brand – will reveal its first Concept car next week, and it could be a 600bhp Coupe version of the Volvo S60.
Back in July, we revealed that Volvo’s now in-house performance brand Polestar was set to deliver its own range of cars with just the Polestar name attached – a bit like Mercedes is doing with AMG – as well as providing performance updates for Volvo’s mainstream cars.
All we got in July was the appearance of the new Polestar badge and the promise the new cars would be Performance electrified cars and not just titivated Volvos.
Now we’re starting to see Polestar teasing the arrival of its first concept on Instagram with a series of small images working towards a full reveal on 17 October (you can see the Instagram photos here).
So what will Polestar’s new car be?
Rumours have been rife, but the consensus seems to be that Polestar will deliver a performance coupe which, hopefully, will be based on the hugely appearing Volvo Coupe Concept (above) we saw a few years ago.
What will power the new Polestar is anyone’s guess, but it seems highly likely to be a plug-in hybrid, and it will almost certainly come with at least 500bhp, and perhaps far more.
We already know Volvo can push their 2.0 litre petrol to 444bhp, and it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to see the electric motor delivering another 150bhp or so to push the potential up to 600bhp. Which would be very interesting.
The debut of the new Polestar Concept is scheduled for 17 October, so we won’t have to wait long to see what’s on offer.
