Porsche Panamera - UK prices announced

Finally, the long, drawn-out saga of the Porsche Panamera’s gestation from concept, to spy shot, to tease, to reveal is over, with Porsche releasing the UK prices for the Panamera today, and the first UK Cars being delivered in September.

Prices start at £72,266 for the Panamera S (which gets the 4.8 V8), £77,269 for the Panamera 4S (which also gets the V8 but with 4WD) and £95,298 for the range-topping Panamera Turbo. Still to come, although not until next year, is the Diesel, and the year after the Hybrid. The diesel will probably come in at low – mid £60s, but expect the Hybrid to be at a premium to the V8s.

The RWD Panamera S has to make do with the 6 speed manual box as standard, but the 4WD and the Turbo get the PDK ‘box as standard. The PDK is available as an option on the RWD V8 for £2,289.00.

It’s been a long time coming (but not as long as the Aston Martin Rapide – which should have been the Lagonda Rapide in our opinion!) but, styling arguments apart, it has been worth the wait. Porsche aficionados will decry the Panamera in the same way that they decry the Cayenne, but the truth is that the Panamera will sell, in numbers greater than the 911 ever will, and at a price point that is both competitive and profitable for Porsche.

In the long-term the best-seller will probably be the Diesel, but for now it will be the Panamera S. And what competition does it face? Well, there’s the Maserati Quattroporte. Fine car, but limited appeal. There’s high-end BMWs and Mercedes, but that is the same issue as the Cayenne – the Porsche will sell because dynamically it is superior and the badge counts for more – just like the Cayenne. And when you get to the Panamera Turbo, the closest you’ll get as a comparison is the Flying Spur – which is £30k more, or perhaps the Mercedes S65 – at a massive £50k more

We’re sure this will turn in to another cash-cow for Porsche. Time will tell.
