The Skoda Fabia vRS Mean Advert
The Skoda Fabia vRS – Skoda’s version of the Polo GTI – gets an advertising campaign all of its own – the ‘Mean’ Skoda.
We like what Skoda has on offer with the Fabia vRS. In fact, we like much of what Skoda does. They take very competent and able VW cars and give them real character. And the cost of that injection of character? Nothing. In fact, better than nothing. Skoda’s cars cost less than their VW counterparts.
Which makes the Skoda Fabia vRS an appealing little car. It gets the very willing 178bhp lump from the Polo GTI and wraps a very individual skin around it. It throws in VW’s seven-speed DSG ‘box and an electronic diff (XDS), all of which adds up to a 7.1 second o-60mph and 44mpg.
You can even have all this pocket-rocket wrapped up in a very practical estate version – which you can’t have with the Polo GTI – and all this Skoda fun comes in a couple of grand less than its Teutonic equivalent.
All of which goes some way to explain Skoda’s success after years of trying to crawl out from under the pre-VW reputation. Skoda is currently enjoying its best year on record and is using that as an excuse to run an advertising campaign for the super-hot Fabia vRS. So refreshing to see when almost every other car maker is promoting only their eco-boxes.
Even better, Skoda has used this ‘Mean Fabia vRS’ advert to poke fun at the fluffy-bunny Skoda ‘Cake advert we saw back in 2007.
Which made us smile.
