Top Gear ‘Reasonably’ Priced Astra up for auction – AGAIN

The Vauxhall Astra Top Gear used for the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car segment is up for auction again after the sale fell through.

Perhaps it’s a good reason not to use eBay to auction stuff for charity, because the eBay auction of the Top Gear Vauxhall Astra used for Star in a Reasonably Priced Car – with proceeds going to the BEN motoring charity – has had a bit of a bit of a hiccup.

The original auction raised £17,800 last Christmas for BEN, but it seems the sale never went through so it’s back up for sale again.

As a piece of ‘old’ Top Gear (that’s now the one with Clarkson, Hammond and May) memorabilia, the Astra may be worth a punt for the future, but there are a few caveats if you are thinking of bidding.

The airbags in the Astra don’t work because they were disabled to allow the roll cage to be fitted, which means you won’t be able to use the Astra on the road.

Vauxhall’s technical bods will talk the new owner through what was done, but it won’t be a two minute job, and nor will it be cheap, to put the car back in to roadworthy condition. So be warned.

As you’d expect, the Astra is low mileage (2,908 – with one careful owner), and it comes with Corbeau Sprint Racing seats with 5 point safety belt harness and the aforementioned full roll-cage.

If you want to take a punt on Top Gear’s Astra, jump over to the eBay auction and place your bid. At the moment it’s standing at £8k (which is probably what it’s worth as a regular Astra – and there’s a £10k reserve), but there’s still a couple of weeks to go.
