Toyota Prius All-Wheel Drive TEASED
It looks like Toyota is teasing a four-wheel drive version of the 2019 Prius as it releases a snowy photo of the Prius ahead of a likely LA Show debut.
Is Toyota planning to reveal a four-wheel drive version of the Prius? It certainly looks like it.There seems to be no other explanation for the arrival of a photo of a Prius blatting through a snowy landscape, especially in light of the text for the teaser which reads: “Fall is here, winter’s near, but the 2019 Prius performs on roads whether snowy or clear“.
Of course, Toyota could just be pointing out that the hybrid system in the Prius performs just as well even when it gets cold, and fitted with proper winter tyres it can go anywhere you want and still keep hold of its green credentials.
But with a refresh for the Prius expected to debut in Los Angeles, with styling and cues from the Prius Plug-In, it’s hard to see why – ahead of a show in a snow-free State like LA – Toyota would go this route unless a 4WD Prius was on the way.
If it is, you can probably expect as similar set-up to the 4WD Prius marketed in Japan as the E-Four, which adds a small electric motor to the back of the Prius for added grip and stability when needed, and a bit of additional regenerative braking too.
We’ll find out for sure by the end of the month when the facelifted Prius makes an appearance in LA.
