The Volkswagen Passat GTE has been revealed as a saloon or estate plug-in hybrid with a claimed 141mpg and electric range of up to 31 miles.

The Volkswagen Passat GTE has been revealed as the Passat take on the recent Golf GTE hybrid ahead of its debut this week at the Paris Motor Show.
That means a tuned version of the 1.4 litre turbo petrol with 154bhp mated with an electric motor in front of the GTE’s six-speed dual-clutch ‘box which adds 113bhp and 243lb/ft of torque to the mix, with the electric motor able to power the Passat for up to 31 miles alone.
Power for the electric motor is provided by a 9.9kWh lithium ion battery pack under the back seat which can be charged by plugging it in or topped-up by regenerative braking or the petrol engine. Plug-in charging time is around 4 hours.
Four different driving modes are available – E-Mode, Hybrid, Battery Charge and GTE – with performance of 0-62mph in under 8 seconds possible when the petrol and electric motors are working together.
Cosmetic change from the regular ICE-engined Passats include blue bits on the grille, new front bumper, LED running lights, GTE badges, interior ambient lighting, blue stitching and aluminium and gloss black trim.
The Volkswagen Passat GTE Plug-in Hybrid will debut at the 2014 Paris Motor SHow this week and arrive in the UK in summer 2015.
