VW ID Electric Car Concept
The Volkswagen ID Concept has been revealed ahead of its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show, previewing a future electric VW in 2020.
After the Volkswagen Dieselgate scandal pushed VW to the edge, the Peoples Car Company is bust reinventing themselves as fluffy, green, caring and…electric.
That’s why we’re getting cars like the Audi Q6 and Porsche Mission E, but more importantly mass market cars before too long like this, the VW ID EV Concept.
Previewing an electric model for 2020, the ID EV comes with a slippery shape and curves, no proper grille – or even a bonnet to speak of – autonomous capability and, importantly, no diesel engine.
VW reckon the ID EV will have a range of up to 373 miles from a single charge, but unless this thing weighs more than an S Class VW must be reckoning on some sort of battery technology leap before 2020, especially as the electric motor it drives is good for around 170bhp
In terms of size, it looks like the ID is about the same as a Golf, and it seems VW’s intention is to have a range of individually styled electric cars selling alongside those with an ICE component.
Which is a shame; hybrid cars have more impact since they came wrapped up in cars people want, rather than a car that shouts ‘Green and a bit loony’.
More specific details will emerge in the next few days once VW roll the ID EV out in Paris.
