Back in April we reported the launch of the SEAT Leon Cupra, which promised to be a cracking car. But then came rumours of a more powerful SEAT Leon Cupra, which would sport the same 265bhp engine as the VW Scirroco R. We thought it might be too soon after the Leon Cupra. But we were wrong. SEAT has revealed that it’s bringing the new SEAT Leon Cupra R to Frankfurt. Good news.
The 265bhp 4-pot turbo in the Cupra R produces 265 bhp, and manages to polish off the 0-060mph sprint in 6 seconds, and on to 155mph. But it’s no sluggard on the economy front, achieving almost 35mph average.
The Cupra R comes shod with a set of 19″ alloys, which hide a formidable set of 17″ discs (16″ at the back). The interior gets the required ‘R’ badges, together with grey Alcantara competition-style bucket seats, white LED lighting for the dials, a leather multi-function steering wheel and aluminium pedals.
Standard spec is pretty decent, with ABS + TCS, ESP + EBA and XDS. XDS is SEAT’s electronic diff which mimics the function of a limited slip diff, and should help the fun on the twisty stuff.
No word on price yet, but you can bet your boots it will undercut the VW Scirocco R.
