Ford has released the second part of its eight part series on the development of the new Focus RS, this time looking at design and the crash test programme.
Last week saw episode 1 of the new Ford Focus RS documentary series released as Ford try to keep the high level of interest the new RS has generated rolling along.
The first episode was quite interesting, and quite informative, if a bit dry, and episode two is in much the same vein.
This time the video takes a look at the design of the new Focus RS, with Ken Block – ‘RS Consultant’, no less – who opines that the new RS needs aggressive looks and aerodynamics that work. He also, sensibly, cautioned against making the RS too extreme looking.
Having looked at the design of the RS – inside and out – the video then turns to Ford’s crash test centre where they prepare side impact tests for the RS (for when you get it all wrong and a lamp post tries to walk through the middle of the car), the first of 28 crash tests the RS had to undergo before launch.
Frankly, if you’re an anorak – which we are – it’s all very interesting. But we do wonder why Ford is stretching this out over eight episodes instead of just delivering a 30 minute documentary on the development of the new RS. Do they thing no one has a long enough attention span for a half hour programme? Or perhaps they think they’ll get a bigger PR bang over a longer period?
We’re betting most are a bit bored already, and we’re only at episode 2.
