Ford has released the first of an eight-part series on how the new Focus RS came in to being, with episode one focussing on the first RS prototype.
Last week we revealed that Ford has put together a documentary series on the new Focus RS – dubbed “Rebirth of an Icon” – which will last eight weeks – one episode a week – and take viewers from the first prototype to the end car. This is episode one.The first episode is tagged ‘Project Kick-Off’, and it does just what it says on the tin with ace hooner Ken Block and Ford’s Raj Nair playing with the first prototype car and trying to work out what it needs to do and where it needs to go.
The driving footage isn’t the most scintillating you’ve ever seen, but it does show the thoughts behind the desire – and ultimately the decision – to give this Focus RS 4WD instead of relying on Revoknuckle to tame the torque steer.
Just in case you’ve forgotten, the new RS does come with four-wheel-drive – despite which you can go and play with a ‘Drift Mode’ – will cost from £28,940 (although we’d expect the better spec cars to be well over £30k) and get to 62mph in 4.7 seconds.
Episode 2 of Rebirth of a Legend next week.
