Mercedes has given the AMG GT 4-Door a set of stilts and created an SUV with up to 1153bhp, aiming straight at the Porsche Cayenne Electric.
Earlier this year, Mercedes revealed the electric AMG GT 4-Door Coupe with up to 1,153 bhp, taking aim at the Porsche Taycan, even though demand for cars like the Taycan has dropped significantly. Still, it’s 2026, so AMG need an electric halo. Now, Mercedes-AMG is back with another bonkers EV, created by taking the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe and jacking it up to create an SUV with much the same underpinnings as the Coupe. Say hello to the new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV, aimed squarely at the new Porsche Cayenne Electric.
The SUV is a bit over 5m long, with front and back ends remarkably similar to its Coupe sibling, and is set to come in three varieties – 53, 55 and range-topping 63 – with a triple-motor setup on top models.
The entry-level AMG 53 comes with 573bhp from a pair of electric motors, powered by a 106kWh battery promising 416 miles of range and 0- 62 mph in 4.6 seconds.
The 55 and 63 models come with a bigger 128 kWh battery, which can take a 710kW charge (not that such chargers can be found in the UK), with up to 435-mile range, with the AMG 63 coming with 711bhp (boosted to 1,1563 bhp for short periods) and good for 0-62mph in 2.7 seconds.
As you’d expect, the SUV also comes with many of the Coupe’s trick stuff, including a two-speed ‘box at the back, simulated gear changes and sounds, ‘Race Engineer’, RWS, Active Ride and more, and an interior exactly similar (bar the extra room)
Mercedes’ Stefan Weckbach said:
Our customers will experience the Mercedes?AMG GT SUV as a vehicle that, for the first time, uniquely combines two worlds: the practical advantages of a full-size SUV with maximum space, comfort and versatility, alongside the emotional sports-car character of a genuine AMG. The key to this lies in the high-tech from Affalterbach. In short: SUV by shape. GT by nature.
The Mercedes-AMG GT SUV ’53’ is expected to go on sale later this month (October 2026) at prices just on the wrong side of £100k. The 55 and 63 models won’t arrive until 2027.
