Jaguar Land Rover decided two years ago to remove physical buttons from the centre console. But now they’ve put them back. Partially.
Car makers have latched on to the idea that all controls in a car should be controlled by a screen rather than by physical switches and buttons (you can probably blame Tesla for that), despite the majority of drivers much preferring a knob to twist or a button to press rather than prodding away at a touchscreen on the move.Thankfully, car makers are now starting to see some sense and are bringing back some buttons and physical controls, with manufacturers like VW realising they got it wrong and bringing back actual buttons in the ID. 3 Neo.
Now, having ruined the interior of the Range Rover by daftly shifting the Climate Panel, Terrain Response knob and Volume control all to the screen from the centre console in 2023, they’ve backtracked.
Back come the Terrain Response Control and volume knob too for the centre console, but they haven’t brought back the climate control panel, so you still have to prod the screen and live with a tacky-looking decor panel filling the gap where it should be.
Still, it’s a step in the right direction.
