Ahead of its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Kia has released more technical details on the 2016 Sportage as well as the first photos of the more upmarket interior.
Last week we had the first photos of the new Kia Sportage, but Kia didn’t see fit to send us interior photos or give much in the way of technical details. But they’ve now remedied that, to a degree.
Last week we saw the new Sportage gets a bit bigger, a bit slicker looking – with a new nose and headlights – and more appealing, but now we can see that Kia has moved the game on with the Sportage’s interior too.
Kia consider the Sportage’s all-new interior a significant improvement over the current model’s, with a greater use of soft-touch materials, metalwork and cloth, leather and stitching adding to the ambience and upmarket feel of a cabin that’s driver-orientated and with a simple, modern look.
Kia say the dash is divided in to ‘Display’ and ‘Control’ zones, with horizontal lines defining the function areas and with either a 7″ or 8″ screen sitting in the centre, with the split zones lending itself perfectly to the new two-tone colour scheme options.
Engine options include a 1.6 litre GDI with 130bhp, a new turbo version of the same engine with 175bhp, a 1.7 litre diesel with 113bhp and a 2.0 litre diesel with either 134bhp or 181bhp, with gearbox options (depending on model) of a six-speed manual, six-speed auto or Kia’s new seven-speed DCT ‘box.
The new Kia Sportage gets its public debut at Frankfurt next month and will arrive in the UK in early 2016.
