Ford Fiesta Sport Special Edition launches

July 6, 2011 By Cars UK

Ford Fiesta Sport Limited Edition

Ford Fiesta Sport Limited Edition

The Ford Fiesta Sport Special Edition launches offering matt black paintwork, leather trim and a diesel or petrol option.

Another day, another Fiesta limited edition, this time the Ford Fiesta Sport Special Edition. Must have taken forever to come up with that name.

This is the follow on from the Fiesta 1600S – which other parts of Europe got as the Sport+ – but this time the name’s the same whether you’re in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Netherlands or Switzerland.

So what marks out this Fiesta as a limited edition?

Engine options are one each of petrol and diesel. The diesel lump is the 94bhp 1.6 litre turbo diesel which, although not going to frighten the horses as it tears up the tarmac, does manage to do 57.4mpg and emit just 107g/km, so low road tax too.

The petrol engine on offer – the 1.6 litre Duratec Ti-VCT – comes much closer to delivering on the sporty pretensions of the Special Edition.

With 132bhp and a half-decent helping of the twisty stuff – 118lb/ft – the petrol-engined Fiesta manages 62mph in a respectable 8.7 seconds and scoots on up to 122mph.

This Fiesta comes only as a three door and colour choices are limited to just seven options, but the stand-out for the model is the Matt Black finish – very on-trend, even if matt cars always end up looking un-washed rather than cool. Or maybe that’s just me.

The exterior gets the aforementioned blackness as standard if you choose and a set of 17″ Panther Black alloys (16″ on the diesel – and silver too if you prefer) to match. The titivation also includes a silver colouring for the grill surround, fog lamp surrounds and aerofoil and some polished tail pipes, all to add contrast to the blackness.

Butchness gets added by lowering the side skirts on the Sport Special Edition and adding spoilers for the front bumper and hatch.

The blackness continues within, with Ebony leather sports seated – heated, no less – set off with contrast silver stitching, a theme which extends to the steering wheel, which also boasts gloss black spokes.

Gloss black is used on the instrument surrounds too and the leather extends to the gearknob and handbrake gaiter. The pedals are presented in alloy and there’s a set of custom mats and scuff plates. Oh, and you also get Climate thrown.

An all-round decent spec for an already decent car. We just don’t know how much Ford want for the Fiesta Sport Special Edition, so it’s a bit hard to decide whether it’s worth grabbing or not.

No doubt they’ll let on at some point.
