The electric Renault 5 E-Tech gets updated for 2026 with new tech, new customisation options and improved range.
There’s no doubt the electric Renault 5 has been a huge success for Renault, grabbing a plethora of Car of the Year Awards, including the Business COTY 2025, European COTY 2025, Top Gear COT, UK Car of the Year and Scottish COTY too, thanks to its relative affordability, stylish retro looks and proper fun factor. But Renault isn’t resting on their R5 laurels and has announced a raft of sensible updates, despite the R5 only being on sale since January last year, including improved range, new colour options and new tech.
The improved range for the R5 comes courtesy of some aero tweaks and a bit of software tweaking, which improves range for the 40kWh models by three miles (now 196 miles) and on the 52kWh models by 12 miles (now 267 miles).
There’s also a new entry-level model with a 107bhp motor and 36.5kWh LFP battery, but it may not reach the UK because its battery may not qualify for the ECG.
Cosmetic choices for the R5 are expanded with Flame Red and Metallic Schist Grey paint jobs. Starry Black roof, Red or Titanium roofline, and new graphics for the front wings. There’s also a gold 18″ Techno alloy option, just in case you want to opt for a Midnight Blue paint job and revive a ‘Williams’ vibe.
Inside, the Iconic trim swaps out the Yellow upholstery for Blue and adds cooled wireless phone charging, new Smart Driving mode and Google’s AI Gemini.
