Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is official – just 20 to be built

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento Official

Lamborghini Sesto Elemento - it's official

The ultra light weight Sesto Elemento is to be put in to production by Lamborghini. Just 20 cars will be built at €1.9 million each.

Perhaps the worst-kept secret at Lamborghini has been production confirmation of the Sesto Elemento, the ultra lightweight supercar Lamborghini revealed at the Paris Motor Show this time last year.

As long ago as November last year we had the news that the Sesto Elemento would go in to production after a French car news site reported that Lamborghini would be building a very limited run of the cars at €2.5 million each.

By May of this year we knew that Lamborghini had already started getting the Sesto Elemento ready for the first customers, and we reported that the first cars would be heading for customers by October this year at a more reasonable €1.9 million – although that’s October in Italian terms, so anything up to next Spring is possible.

Just as a reminder, the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento has the same 5.2 litre V10 you’ll find in the LP570-4 Superleggera and can get to 62mph in 2.5 seconds and on past 200mph, thanks in no small part to the astonishing low weight of just 999kgs.

That low weight is thanks to extensive use of the Sesto Elemento’s namesake – carbon – used extensively as CFRP. A carbon fibre monocoque is just the start, with the entire front frame, exterior panels and crash boxes made from the same ultra light – and ultra strong – material.

Even the Sesto Elemento’s major suspension components, propshaft and the rims are carbon fibre, and the tailpipes are made from Pyrosic, an advanced glass-ceramic matrix composite able to withstand temperatures up to 900° celsius.

At least that was the spec of the show car at Paris although, despite finally confirming the Sesto Elemento is about to find a home with 20 wealthy customers, Lamborghini hasn’t officially confirmed the production spec is the same.

But it seems more than likely, apart from some toning-down of the rather concept-y interior.
